AI that asks questions, not one that writes for you

AI in Author Notebook is designed around one idea: it should help you think through your own story, not replace your voice. It asks questions to surface gaps and possibilities, and it reorganizes scattered notes into something you can actually use — you stay the author.

AI features are off by default. If you want to use them, you enable them yourself and provide your own API key. There is no bundled AI subscription and no AI running in the background without your knowledge.

This is an evolving area of the product, and the specifics may change as the beta continues. The underlying principle will not: AI is optional, and it is not a substitute for your own writing.
